Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

Providing meaningful relief with experienced skill and advanced procedures.

If you are suffering with heavy bleeding or pelvic pain, you already know it interferes with your enjoyment of everyday activities. Fortunately, new treatments are available that offer relief and a viable alternative to hysterectomy.

You don’t have to live with heavy periods.

Abnormal uterine bleeding can have a variety of causes, including hormonal imbalance, uterine fibroids and endometrial polyps. So your care begins with a thorough diagnosis to pinpoint the cause of your problem. Our board-certified Ob-Gyn physicians offer a full range of diagnostic testing… and know that the most appropriate treatment begins with you understanding your options. Based on your test results and preferences, we will recommend the treatments that can offer lasting relief from pain or heavy bleeding, including minimally invasive procedures.

Fast relief with minimal downtime.

Endometrial ablation is a safe, effective treatment for heavy bleeding that we perform in an outpatient setting. There are no incisions and minimal downtime, with many women returning to normal daily activities in just a day or two. After the ablation procedure either Novasure® or Thermachoice®, which we can perform in-office, most women experience very light periods… or none at all. Endometrial ablation also often helps reduce the pain associated with heavy periods. In addition, we can use the Mirena® intrauterine system, which is also a contraceptive method, to reduce the amount of tissue shed during menstruation.

Other possible treatments include myomectomy (fibroid removal) and hysterectomy, depending on the particulars of your condition. Our experienced, board-certified gynecologic surgeons perform myomectomy hysteroscopically for minimal surgical impact. And when hysterectomy is the most prudent course of treatment, we can use laparoscopic or vaginal approaches including da Vinci®. Much less invasive than traditional hysterectomy, these techniques involve tiny incisions, less scarring and pain and shorter downtime, which often means resuming normal activities in days rather than weeks.
